So the owner of the gym I go to had a nutritional lecture on the zone diet this past Saturday(I did not go) but one of the girls posted a picture, on the gyms closed facebook page, of her shopping cart, with the message to the the owner that she will no longer have to get dressed in the dark. I replied asking her why she was getting dressed in the dark? She replied that the owner kept saying over and over that if they do the zone diet that they wont have to get dressed in the dark because they will finally like what they see in the mirror with the lights on!!!
I feel this kind of message breeds eating disorders and also feeds into them. He is not even thinking about how many of his members might be hiding an eating disorder. He does not even know I have an eating disorder and I coach there.
Is it my eating disorder that makes me feel this is a wrong message or am I being over sensitive?

This can be where survivors search for mother and father figures. Transference issues in counseling can occur and this is normal for childhood abuse survivors.

well i think your eating disorder helps recognize that that is the type of message it sends out. i wouldnt automatically think that, but i could see how it is sending that message to me subliminally. you are totally right to be upset about this. your thinking is right on target. i think you should say something about it. take care.

A few thoughts on this.......
I guess the difference with an ED that is all about body image, they would never get to the point where they felt like they didn't have to get dressed in the dark even if they are at an unbelievable unhealthy weight......so I'm not exactly sure if it would truly apply to at least anorexia ED's or not.

For those of Overeaters.....it might be encouragement for them to loose the weight they have gained in a very healthy way.

My personal opinion would be that the owner is trying hard to market the food so he can make money off of it.....& isn't thinking in terms of ED's or not.....just thinking about selling his produce with what ever sales promotion seems to work or has been found to work in the past in other places making the same sales pitch.....many times the marketing scheme (sales pitch) is placed on them at the place where they have gotten involved with the products & they just latch onto it without even thinking..other than it was what helped to sell at the other places....it will work here.

If you feel that it would be good to mention in a general way that that sales pitch is rather a trigger for people with an ED & it might be beneficial to come up with another slogan that would be more appropriage all around.....there is nothing wrong with voicing your opinion.....just don't expect them to listen or change because of it......& think it a miracle if they do.
