I have long had a problem with my weight (you can look up my pic in the gallery if you need to see what a cow I am), but I've always been an emotional eater. Anxious and bored are my two big triggers. I have been both since moving, and I seem to be incapable of not stuffing myself with anything available 24/7.

Since I need a new T anyway, I would like to find one who deals in these kinds of issues. Have any of you here had any luck finding T's who specialize in eating disorders? I'm not sure I'd even know what to ask a T to find out if he or she can be helpful to me or not in this area.

Thanks.

Candy

I also like to binge and used to be so fit and thin with muscle no fat. Then after I started all the meds I lost my tight stomach, abs, arms, legs everything! I am not fat just not the usaul me (Plus I get tired easily when doing hard physical work). You should be concerned about how you normally are and your regular eating habits, exercise and weight habits. I started keeping busy with other things so I would not think about food and when I am upset I do something, when i am real upset I like to play Computer games like Roller Coaster Tycoon. It really does help! I am trying to get fit again, I know it will happen! I know you can do it too!

Hi Candy,
When i was looking for a new T i wanted one who specialised in eating disorders too so i just googled and found a national eating disorder support site which had a list of therapists attached to it. maybe you can find a site like that for your state or city? i found it easier to start searching from the disorder side of things rather than the therapy side.
i hope you can find someone to help you.
good luck!

I look on my eating problems as a subset of my regular problems, a symptom rather than a problem myself. My body just "helping" me so my emotional difficulties don't get the better of me? Kind of like nightmares so during the day I can function better? So, I worked with my T on the emotional stuff rather than the eating per se. It's frustrating for me to work on a symptom as I'll just change symptoms is one gets too much heat. So I "ignore" my symptoms and work hard on what's "really" bugging me. But I have good genes/health, don't get ill so have been able to get away with over 100 extra pounds (but time is running out as I get older and have pretty much fixed my emotional problems so have to literally do something about exercise and eating right).

Your old T doesn't know/can't refer you to someone?

My old T and I both moved out of state at the same time. So no, he's no use for this. I don't know a soul in my new town except my landlady!

Don't know if this site would be useful or not?

http://www.edreferral.com/

and, more specifically, http://www.edreferral.com/compulsive_overeating.htm

Thank you both!

Unfortunately, the few practitioners I found on that site are where I *used* to live ... there is basically nothing out here in the boonies therapy for weight issues.
