But it seems that I'm selfish- I've spent more money on food for myself in recent years than on holiday and birthday gifts for friends and family. I'm often too broke to go hang out somewhere with friends and family because I've spent money on delivery food or other quick and easy meals bought at a convenience store.

You are a good person. The issues that you punish yourself over have nothing to do with that.
