Hi everyone,
I have struggled a while with an eating disorder, low self esteem, anxiety ect.. you all understand where i am coming from! Which is why i really would like your opinion about a tattoo idea that i have. I really want an affirmation written on my inner wrist, something small but has the NEDA symbol. I have attached a PRINT document that has the ideas i artistically attempted to create. There are two phrases; one is "Stay Strong"-> where the "o" is i wanted the symbol. And the other phrase is "Be Brave"--> where the "a" is i wanted the symbol. I am having a hard time deciding what phrase i like best. I know it is my personal choice, but they both mean something special, and i figured b/c we all are going through very similar issues, i wanted to see which phrase spoke to the majority of people? "Stay Strong" for me means, being staying mentally, and physically strong in my life. when i am faced with a food challenge or new situation to experience. No matter what, just be who you are. "Be Brave" means, that when i am scared about anything; food, anxiety/ guilt, body image situation. unsure if i should challenge my eating. To just jump in and go for it, try to not to hold back and do the thing that scares you. I hope you will let me know what you all think Thanks. |

Hi em124. I think there is a recovery tattoo thread in the anorexia forum. You might get some good feedback on your idea if you also post there. Personally i support any idea which helps a person stay out of sickness and stay in wellness.

I struggle with a slew of mental issues. I have "breathe" tattooed to my wrist because as long as I breathe I'll get through anything.

Personally, I like "be brave". I like your meaning behind it, and in my opinion, it reminds me of moving forward and never looking back. I am getting something similar as a recovery tattoo. I'm getting an anchor on my wrist with "conqueror" written on the side of the middle piece of the anchor. I've had to face many trials and battle a tough si addiction, and now I'm being brave and I'm seeking help for my ed. Post a picture up here somewhere so we can see it once its done healing!

Thank you so much! I appreciate your thoughts. I know your tattoo will be a beautiful symbol of your journey. I would love to see it as well.

I personally think maybe both, one on each wrist since they both mean different important things .

Whatever you choose will be right for you, imo, since you are considering it so deeply.
IMO you shouldn't get one at all at this time. Eating disorders are a form of self abuse, and in this instance I personally think the tattoo is also a form of self harming. You could have wash off ones made of Stay Strong for yourself... or have one of those colored rubber wrist bands made up for one... it would give you the same encouragement without "harming" or disfiguring your beautiful body. ![]()
