I've been depressed for a long time... and overweight.
I managed to lose 70lbs.
And then, for the last 11 months, I've developed bulimia...
I used to be in therapy, but have a rocky relationship with my therapist. I'm lost here.
I don't know how to broach this subject. I.. just don't.

Hi,

I used to be bulimic too.

I guess your T can't treat what she doesn't know.

You could try first by outright stating it to your T and gauging what sort of support you get. There's no shame to be had in disclosing this to your T. That's what she is there for. She's helped people with many issues and has quite likely treated patients with bulimia.

If you constantly hold parts back then she can't 100% help you.

Having said all of this, I've had a really bad T in the past whom I cut ties with. The connection was just never there.

I hope that you make a decision that is best for you.

Take care.

There are so many therapists ahs therapies out there. If your current one isn't working for you, find a new place. I had to leave a therapist before because she wasn't helping me (and actually made me feel guilty). So i found a really great out patient program. The therapists are amazing. But... You have to take the initiative to give the place or seek help. No therapist is going to randomly knock on your door! Google is awesome to help you find someone/some place. "Out patient bulemia" "out patient eating disorders" "eating disorder therapists" are great Google searches to get you started. Also, if you have insurance, you can call them. They have a list of crisis, out patient and therapists for mental health. Good luck!

I would definitely find a new T......there are so many to choose from....I found that it's not worth going to one that isn't good or isn't a fit.....I found a wonderful psychologist (who is retiring this month)....but she has handed me over to my DBT group leader who knows me also...not like my current psychologist does....but she knows me better than any other one that was available.

Therapy is honestly the only way to work through the causes of the ED....because there is usually so much more in the background that is a cause of the problem that has nothing to do with eating or not eating.
