Does anyone else get that? And is it a relatively normal thing or something to worry about?
I don't seem to feel hungry ever, the only way that I can tell that I need food is by my stomach rumbling. I'm not sure how long this has been going on for, but it's been at least a few months. I rarely eat breakfast anymore, and sometimes skip lunch, but generally when I do eat it it's just a piece of garlic bread or a cookie. Dinner on the other hand I tend to eat a decent amount of, though is at least partly to do with the fact that me not eating very much would irritate my mother quite a lot. Yesterday was different however, by the time it got to dinner I had eaten nothing but a mcflurry all day, and I had to go and buy dinner (chips) because the rest of my family were ill, but all the way up there I was debating whether or not to get myself anything. In the end I did because I thought that I would somehow end up telling my friends, who wouldn't be very pleased with me, but I had to force myself to eat anything at all, which is a complete new low for me. So yeah... what's up with me? (If you happen to want anymore info. feel free to ask and I'll reply as soon as I see it ![]() |

(((IReallyDon'tCare)))
I believe it's symptomatic of your highly depressed mood state (I've just responded to your other post). I don't have an appetite when I'm depressed to be honest. It's just one of the effects as I think we all respond physiologically a little different sometimes. So please don't pay too much attention. You're depressed. So you've lost your appetite. |

Yes, and it can be.
I don't know if you have an eating disorder? (Given where it's posted, it's possible) In those of us with eating disorders, it can be a symptom of many things. Prolonged periods of not eating enough can cause loss of hunger cues. So, many of us end up not knowing when we are or aren't hungry. To this day, I go from "not hungry at all" to "near fainting, could eat a bear" in seconds. The latter isn't hunger, important to note, but beyond it. There are, also, problems with certain deficiencies that can result in loss of hunger cues (I can't remember which ones at the moment). Another thing could be, as the other poster said, depression (whether you do or don't have an eating disorder this could be the problem). I haven't read your other post, but if you've been in a depressive episode for some time, loss of appetite could accompany it. For some, increased appetite is a major feature of depression. However, there are those of us who lose our appetite as well. Loss of appetite became a major symptom for me (which is actually what contributed to my developing an eating disorder). Often, during really long, bad depressed episodes, I don't feel hungry, and no food looks appealing at all. It could become a problem (as it did for me, leading to developing an eating disorder), or it could pass. The important thing is that you've recognized it. It's important to try to eat, even when depressed. Easier said than done, I know, but important. You really can't feel better unless you're well nourished. That's the problem with loss of appetite and depression. That being well nourished is important to treatment and recovery. It might be something you can address with your pdoc if you're in treatment. I do hope you feel better soon. Take care. ![]()

Anxiety does that to me & when there is depression on top of that I have NO Appetite.....which along with the meds that messed up my appetite for the depression & ended up in full blown anorexia & ended up medically hospitalized with it along with several months in an ED treatment center.
What I also have found was that for years after I have a really bad time with the anorexia, I end up with no appetite & my stomach doesn't even growl....I can go days & not even realize that I haven't eaten anything. Once I got back to better eating over the last few years....I do have hunger & even cravings for foods. I don't binge/purge so I don't go crazy with the cravings it's just I get hungry for certain flavors.....so I was able to recover from not feeling hungry...but at the time I thought I never would
