Recently started a new medication (against my wishes- long story), and I feel all over the place! Worse; despite knowing I've either eaten *exactly* the same (to the gram!) or less than I normally eat, I seem to have jumped in weight!

I feel rubbish, fat and disgusted by myself. I got totally fed up today, had a bulimic episode (because IME that seems to be the only thing I can be sure means I lose weight). I have been on the new meds for 6 days now, apparently another week before things settle down but I'm too worried about any more weight gain to just sit back and wait. I feel like I should never eat again. My energy levels have nose-dived, I can barely keep my eyes open during the day (but I do by keeping myself moving) and then when it gets to night I feel totally wide awake!

Sorry, just sound off, just have had enough of putting on weight without reason and with feeling so all over the place
Hugs from:

Hello BlueGreenTabbyCat: I don't know what med you are newly on. Whenever I have been on antidepressants, I have always gained at least 5 pounds (U.S.) I think it is primarily water retention. It does also take a while, after starting a new med, to adjust to it. So it's probably not surprising that you're energy level has nosedived & you feel wide awake at night. Hopefully this will settle out as your body adjusts. However, if it does not, a consult with the prescribing physician may be in order. I wish you all the best...

Thanks Skeezyks, I'm on Prozac. I was told it was the least likely to make me gain weight and that was the only one I agreed to for that reason. I really don't have good experiences with any medication (several medical people have decided independently I am very sensitive to side effects and seem to be overwhelmed with all of them!). I feel massive and it doesn't help that my appetite has totally gone. Part of me thinks I should just stop eating full stop (I know that's not wise given my background).

Am feeling somewhat worse after having a glass of wine on visiting my mum- she rarely has a bottle so I measured out 75mls (around 60kcals) and took out 100kcals from my day to round it. I'm now feeling rubbish for having done that- both physically and because I feel like I shouldn't have consumed any calories at all if I was not hungry, I can't work out what part is the Prozac, and what part is me!

Here's to hoping tomorrow things feel better, although the idea of tomorrow and another day feels a bit too much right now so I'm trying to not think about it...

I base my meds on their weight side effects too. I want so badly to switch from seroquel to Zyprexa, until ppl told me they'd gain like 30lbs a month. And I have to be on birth control for a month or so because I'm having estrogen problems and I'm only 28 (probably from my ED) but I'm terrified of the water weight.

When do you see your pdoc again? Can you let someone know you're having a bad reaction? Like a nurses number? I'd just hang in there and hope you can get your meds changed soon.

Dx: BP2, PTSD, bulimia/anorexia
Seroquel 300mgs
Lamictal titrating at 75mgs
Buspar 45mgs
Ativan 1mg PRN
Vyvance 50mg PRN
