I've gained weight recently, and it makes me want to throw up. I've only thrown up a few times before, but this makes me want to do it more. I want to lose weight, but I hate exercising. And I tell myself that I'll start eating better, but I always seem to give in and eat crap. What do I do? I know I shouldn't throw up, but it seems like the easiest solution.

Why don't you do something healthy like join Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig? The unhealthy ways of dealing with extra weight will only result in more problems. Wishing you all the best.

First of all I don't know exactly what your BMI is so my answer might not be suitable for you. Anyway, I don't think throwing up would be a solution for you -or anyone to be honest-

If you were over-weighted -as my BMI indicates yet I don't look that fat- and as you said you want to lose some weight, I guess the best thing to do so watching the calories you're eating. It doesn't really have to be paired with working out if you're not planning to lose much weight. However, better ask a nutrition expert.
If you're not over-weighted but you just don't like the way you look, well.. Ask a couple of your friends -or anyone you're sure won't deceive you- about their opinion of your body -whether it was skinny, healthy, chubby or fat I mean- and ask them if you needed to lose some weight. And again better be counseled by a nutrition expert.

If your case was none of the above, then accept my apologies for not being able to help you.

Throwing up will not help you lose weight. It will instead become something that you once had control over but now feel compelled to do. When you throw up, your body feels deprived so it will hold onto everything you do eat. It will also grind your metabolism to a halt. I have friends who have ruptured their esophagus and have seen their electrolyte imbalance jeopardize the health of their heart. So many men and women who are diagnosed with bulimia do not have the liberty to muse over whether or not purging should be a part of their lives, it just is. And it destroys everything in its path. Throwing up does not lead to weight loss, it leads to death. It doesn't matter if it's just "a few times". Every episode has the chance to fatally change your body chemistry. SO please, turn to healthy alternatives if you feel you need to lose weight. Talk to your doctor, a nutritionist.

Throwing up will also make you lose other things ... like your teeth, your hair, your complexion, your confidence, your friends, your sex drive, possibly your ability to have babies or saddest of all, your life.

What is will not do is make you feel any better, even if you do lose some water weight.

Please don't go down that path. Get help to learn to feel better about what is bugging you. It ain't about the food.
