Has anyone here seen a nutritionists. I have been bingeing and purging on and off for over a year and finally told my psych doctor about it and she is having me see a nutritionist. Has this been helpful for anyone here? What was your experience with it?

Hello,

I have not seen a nutrionist before but hopefully someone will reply soon that can share their experience.

If they could help you end the binge/purge cycle, I think it's a great idea. I can see how a structured and balanced food plan could be helpful there.

Wishing you Health, Rainy

I've seen a few nutritionists. I don't have an eating disorder, but I have OCD and that sometimes affects my eating. Some nutritionists don't want to touch mental health issues with a 10 ft pole. However, I'm seeing a nutritionist now that specializes in helping people with mental health issues. She is seriously amazing! Right now, one of the big things she has me working on is being more flexible towards food while also helping me mantain a diet that will help me lose some weight. If your pdoc recommended you to one, I'm sure they will have experience with people with mental health concerns.
Thanks for this!

My ex saw a nutritionist (she has an ED) and seemed to find it useful, but it was brief. I think, had she that support for a longer period of time, it might've done some real good.

I have seen a nutritionist just do your research and make sure that it's one that specializes in eating disorders. I usually google my doctors and other specialists just to make sure. I was referred to one but it was difficult. She implemented food to quickly and I told her that I was afraid of gaining weight. I wasn't underweight to the point where I needed to gain but she believed so. My T now is suggesting a nutritionist again. I know what I'm suppose to be eating and not its my wanting to make the effort to change that needs to happen. Overall I think a nutritionist is great in order for us to educate ourselves on the foods we eat. clear up misconceptions, and provide guidance.
