My friend on Facebook has an eating disorder. She had bulimia when I knew her; but then she started losing tons of weight. Now she’s deathly skinny. I guess now she has heart problems.

I don’t really understand eating disorders. But it seems like no one is helping her. She’s not in a treatment center or in a regular hospital, she’s still at home.

Why is she not getting help? Does she not want it? I really don’t understand so I am not trying to be naive or obnoxious.

Will she die? Aren’t heart problems really bad for anorexics?

The choice to go to the hospital or not is our own. No one can force someone to get care they dont want.

She may die. Hard to say just how bad it really is & what the heart problem actually is.

I was in the medical hospital with anirexia the last time. The staff pdoc threatened to put me on a hold if I left the hospital. My mom had died & I needed to be at her funeral since I was the ladt family & had organized the funeral from the hospital. The pdoc said I would die if I left without the IV nutrition. My GP willingly looked the other way when I went AMA with the promise to come back after the funeral. Obviously I didnt die....so one never really knows.

If I hadnt willingly gone to the hospital on my own, no one could have forced me. Depending on whst is the REAL cause of the ED... that isbwhat she needs treatment for. ED's are usually a result of something else going on or having hapoened in one's life that is the real foundational treatment needed. The ED treatment is like the bandaid over the sore to keep that from being fatal while the underlying issue needs treating. The ED is like the tip if the ice berg. It's what you can physically see as a problem though what is underlying goes much much deeper & more complex.
