Trigger Warning (?) I guess for disordered eating:
IDK where else to post this
~

At the beginning of the school year, I was practically starving myself. I would only eat dinner because my parents made me. I would over exercise, to the point where I felt like I was going to pass out. I used to be extremely dizzy in school all the time.

My mom told my therapist but she never diagnosed me with anything. She said I was starving myself and I needed to eat.
I eat okay now, but I go days or weeks still trying to starve myself. Whenever I gained weight I freaked out. When I was starving myself when I was slender but I wanted to get down to much lower. Now I weigh a little more than slender and I'm freaking out. I listen to subliminals for weight loss (videos that supposedly help you loose weight by just listening) to cope with my feelings.
I couldn't fit into my costume that I ordered because it was too small around the hips and I freaked out yesterday and tried to starve myself again but my mom caught me and made me eat.
Now, I'm only eating the three basic meals with no snacks today because I feel uncomfortable eating.

I don't know what to do, just wanted to vent. Sorry for the long post

Unless they observe you over time & you actually meet the qialufications for the diagnosis based on the DSM requirements they won't put a label on a behavior....so it makes sense that you weren't diagnosed.

I have been hospitalized medically for anorexia many times IN THE PAST. I can honestly say that eating healthy & exercising healthy & staying at a healthy weight is the best feeling of all.

Maybe you need to size up the costume to be accurate for your size.....trying to get into my junior high prairie dress at the age 54 is not even practical.....at your age growth IS NORMAL as long as it is within the healthy range. Accepting REALITY is not always easy.

The diagnosis for an eating disorder can be a bit strict, but that doesn't mean you don't have disordered eating/other mental health issues that need addressing. I would try not to get caught up on the diagnosis or worry that you aren't sick enough for help. Waiting until you meet the criteria would mean you had a progressing and serious issue for a long time. It will also make it much harder to recover once you are physically very unwell and have to gain a lot more weight, or have developed a very negative coping pattern that is hard to stop. I remember I did not seek help for a long time because I thought I wasn't bad enough, then ended up hospitalized with anorexia and had such an uphill battle for years. You know something is not right and you need help, so please get it and get to the bottom of this before it gets more serious. Often disordered eating is a symptom of something else that needs addressing. I hope you can turn this around!
Thanks for this!

Very good post yellow fleurs.

Most disordered eating & ED's have other serious undlying mental health issues causing them that when addressed can actually help the disordered eating & ED issues if caught early on.

That is what happened with me. No one addressed the REAL underlying reasons causing my anorexia & it is NOT ALWAYS body image issues that are the initial cause.
