I am a college student, and I’m currently living on campus because my parents’ house is an abusive environment. The cafeteria and all other dining locations are closed because it is spring break, so I have to find food from other locations. Since I’m more or less broke, I’ve tried living off of Nature Valley granola bars for the first few days, but those got old. I ate a bag of Doritos for the next two days and those made me feel extremely bloated and fat. So I called my grandmother and asked her if we could go eat, and she agreed to pay. That food lasted a day or so. I caved in last night and bought bread, peanut butter, and jelly; so I’ve been living off of that since yesterday.
Now, it feels like my teeth are hurting from all the sugar I’ve consumed. I brush, floss, and use mouthwash on my teeth every day, so I don’t think my teeth are bad. I don’t drink soda and hardly ever coffee; only water. I feel extremely fat, anxious, and this certain spot in my mouth is hurting every so often. Could this just be a placebo, my anxiety, my ED? I’ve not really had many people to talk to since most of my friends are gone for holiday and my partner is in England. Any advice, words of encouragement, or comments are appreciated. EDIT: I'm not exactly broke... I have about $2000 in the bank saved up, but I have no one else to financially support me. I'm afraid to spend the money in case my car breaks down or if I get sick and have to go to the hospital... |

I'm sorry you having to deal with this difficult dilemma.
![]() Realistically, I don't know about the physical symptoms you're experiencing. It would make sense, to me, that they may be a combination of anxiety plus the nature of the diet you've been following since the dining facilities at your college closed down. You mentioned you have $2,000 in the bank. What this situation may come down to is simply a matter of priorities. I know you wrote you're afraid to spend what you have in the bank in case your car breaks down. That makes sense. However plunging yourself into a heightened state of anxiety, & perhaps eating-disorder problems, in order to save money for your car may not be the best choice either. All told... it may simply be best to spend a bit of that money in an effort to maintain your health. I wish you well... ![]() ![]()

I would imagine the lack of food is an ed trigger, and Also triggers anxiety.
I think you need to prioritize food. Get some healthful and inexpensive items such as canned or dried beans, rice or pasta, and some fruit and veggies. For a werk or two, for one person, you can keep this budget reasonable. Adequate nutrition will help anxiety symptoms, and prevent ed relapse. I hope you feel better soon! ![]() |

If you want to eat healthy then eat healthy. I cringe going to the grocery store and seeing poor people with frozen chicken nuggets, chips, Pepsi, Hostess cakes and other processed garbage piled up in the cart. Eating well is not expensive. Carrots are dirt cheap and last a long time. Frozen fruits and veggies are just as healthy as fresh and so. No reason for eating garbage nowadays, especially when you read fast food and BED essay and fast food and obesity essay and learn how bad you might damage your health
