How much is it normal to want to chew or suck crushed ice? I mean, I do run a lot, so I assume I am dehydrated a lot, but lately I have been really going for crushed ice with a little liquid in it like Powerade Zero or Diet Coke. I fill my glass to the top with ice, then add the drink. I do drink the actual drink but really desire to get a piece of ice to suck or crunch. If the glass gets under 2/3 to 1/2 ice left, I really want to add more crushed ice (and usually do). This has been going on the last couple of months, worse within the last month. H doesn’t seem to think it is an issue, but it seems a little weird to me? Why am I doing this all of a sudden? I am thinking maybe I need to get some bloodwork done?
Has this happened to anyone else?

My friend does that and her doc says it's because her iron is way low. She got the blood work done and it was true. But the pills make her sick. So she has to up her iron rich foods. That doesn't mean just meat tho. Plenty of options!! Just my two cents..

Low iron makes sense. I am usually not anemic, but the last few times I have had bloodwork, I nearly always have low iron and low iron capacity though I won’t have low RBCs. Doc just always said to eat more dark green leafy vegetables. Maybe it’s gotten worse or it’s caused some anemia? I have never had this ice craving thing happen to me before.
