I know I’m going to be diagnosed with an eating disorder very soon. But I don’t know which one. I usually eat like 1200 calories a day. Once a week I overeat. I eat the same stuff all the time. I avoid certain foods and just avoid specific things in general like meds that cause hunger or weight gain even if they are helping. I take my meds at different times to correlate with my hunger. I drink large amounts of diet iced tea and diet soda and water. I use substances so I can sleep through hunger. Basically I just avoid and restrict. But once a week I give myself a cheat day.

I have seen studies showing that some children are just born with a pallet that likes vegetables such as broccoli while other children can't stand it because their taste buds register a strong bitter taste. There is nothing wrong with them for not eating their broccoli. ![]() Last edited by TunedOut; Dec 03, 2020 at 03:52 AM. |

Honestly this sounds like its bordering on anorexia, due to your fear of weight gain / fat phobia and the food /meal restricting. Of course, I'm not a doctor and could not diagnose.

IMO, how extreme a 1200 calorie diet is depends on your sex, age, activity level and size--when I went to this website (Calorie Calculator) it showed that a 1200 calorie diet put me on the line between mild weight loss and weight loss (I would lose about .75 pounds a week), so if I needed to lose weight then 1200 calories a day with one cheat day a week (I have seen "experts" say that having "cheat" days is good for your metabolism) would be reasonable IMO. IMO, if you are over weight, then it is hard but losing weight is good for your health (can lower your blood pressure and many other good things). IMO, if you are overweight, then losing weight slowly (mild weight loss of .5 lbs a week) is the healthiest route. Perhaps use the calorie calculator above to figure out if you are getting a reasonable amount of calories.

Losing weight is not always a healthy thing, nor is a preoccupation with weight and weight gain / loss. One can also be overweight and anorexic. |

My bad. Sorry I didn’t come back.
I’m about 35 pounds overweight but I look 20 pounds less and I think that’s what gets people. Is that I don’t look like I need to lose weight. I used to weigh 236 and then lost a ton. Now I’m 180 down from about 187. So it’s been a 7 pound weight loss in just about a week with calorie reduction/restriction and just in general not feeling well.

Again, are you making a stab at me? I don't think you read my post closely enough. Edit: I don't think you read my thread closely enough to comment on whether or not you think I should lose weight. It sounds like you are assuming things about what I think about losing weight though.

It started off as me dieting but now it’s turned into this full blown food aversion and when I eat even something small and for the first time in a long time, I feel really sick and unable to function. It’s like my body just can’t do food anymore like it’s rejecting everything I eat. I don’t throw up although today I kind of wanted to just so I could feel better.

In addition to ED's there is also something Ive heard of called "disordered eating". I dont know if thats its own ED or not but IMO it isnt all that healthy. The idea behind disordered eating is a preoccupation with food, calorie intake, meals, etc.
Also preoccupation with your physical body and appearance. Disordered eating involves unrealistic restrictions with foods and sometimes a bargaining phase where you might make deals with yourself- I.E. " I am going to only eat 550 calories for the next five days and binge on the weekend". Of course I do not know if any of this qualifies as an ED but IMO it should. I had disordered eating and an unhealthty obsession on body and weight but never quite made the threshhold for an ED.
