I know I’m going to be diagnosed with an eating disorder very soon. But I don’t know which one. I usually eat like 1200 calories a day. Once a week I overeat. I eat the same stuff all the time. I avoid certain foods and just avoid specific things in general like meds that cause hunger or weight gain even if they are helping. I take my meds at different times to correlate with my hunger. I drink large amounts of diet iced tea and diet soda and water. I use substances so I can sleep through hunger. Basically I just avoid and restrict. But once a week I give myself a cheat day.

I am not sure if these practices sound like an eating disorder. Many of the things you are doing (like usually eating 1200 calories a day but cheating once a week) sound perfectly normal to me (if they aren't then I have a worse disorder than you do but I don't feel like I do. ) When I was in my 20s, I drank a lot of Diet Coke but haven't drank sodas for years. I have read in many articles that diet sodas aren't very good for us. When I can afford it, I drink San Pellegrino or Perrier water instead. Also, because my chemo caused me to need more electrolytes and minerals, I recently started occasionally drinking Propel--the peach and orange flavored ones are my favorite. Not sure what is bad about diet iced tea other than the caffeine (especially if you are drinking it in the afternoon or at dinner) can make it harder to get to sleep. It does sometimes take longer to fall asleep when you are hungry but I have always heard it is better to have light meals at dinner. My grandmother always told me, "Eat like a king at breakfast, a queen for lunch and a pauper at dinner." I have followed this advice to some extent my entire life. IMO quitting meds that cause weight gain is something many of us have to consider--both our physical bodies and our minds are important so we have to consider are some meds worth it if they sabotage our physical health?

Also, I have never been a "picky" eater but IMO, some people are just born this way -- one of my siblings has always been a "picky" eating IMO lol. I have seen studies showing that some children are just born with a pallet that likes vegetables such as broccoli while other children can't stand it because their taste buds register a strong bitter taste. There is nothing wrong with them for not eating their broccoli. I know many people who prefer eating the same foods and don't like to try new things--do you think you only eat certain foods because they are simply the ones you like?

Honestly this sounds like its bordering on anorexia, due to your fear of weight gain / fat phobia and the food /meal restricting. Of course, I'm not a doctor and could not diagnose.

IMO, how extreme a 1200 calorie diet is depends on your sex, age, activity level and size--when I went to this website (Calorie Calculator) it showed that a 1200 calorie diet put me on the line between mild weight loss and weight loss (I would lose about .75 pounds a week), so if I needed to lose weight then 1200 calories a day with one cheat day a week (I have seen "experts" say that having "cheat" days is good for your metabolism) would be reasonable IMO. IMO, if you are over weight, then it is hard but losing weight is good for your health (can lower your blood pressure and many other good things). IMO, if you are overweight, then losing weight slowly (mild weight loss of .5 lbs a week) is the healthiest route. Perhaps use the calorie calculator above to figure out if you are getting a reasonable amount of calories.

@TunedOut are you talking to me or MountainDewed? I'm aware that you saw my thread in coping with emotions.

Losing weight is not always a healthy thing, nor is a preoccupation with weight and weight gain / loss. One can also be overweight and anorexic.

It seems like you since MountainDewed did not come back. I agree with your point and don't actually know enough about MountainDewed to know if she (he?) has an eating disorder. Since I am 5" tall, overweight, older and just walk once a day and not that active--IMO a 1200 calorie diet would not be that radical for me. However, I agree that preocupation with calories does not work well--usually the cause is that we need to slowly build up our metabolism with proper excercise, nutrition (focus on avoiding empty calories but eat when we are hungry), eliminate drugs that make us gain weight and if we are eating emotionally--deal with the pain instead of soothing the pain with food.

My bad. Sorry I didn’t come back.

I’m about 35 pounds overweight but I look 20 pounds less and I think that’s what gets people. Is that I don’t look like I need to lose weight. I used to weigh 236 and then lost a ton. Now I’m 180 down from about 187. So it’s been a 7 pound weight loss in just about a week with calorie reduction/restriction and just in general not feeling well.

look I know you saw my thread in coping w emotions and what you're saying is either extremely ignorant to what I wrote or extremely vicious.

Sorry, I have mostly been overweight my entire life and also on some sort of self imposed eating restriction too. I know it can be impossible for many of us to lose weight. I also know that losing weight is a choice and if your weight is not effecting your health (diabetes, high blood pressure, bad back, etc) then there is no need to change. Sorry that I made the conversation less that social.

Again, are you making a stab at me? I don't think you read my post closely enough. Edit: I don't think you read my thread closely enough to comment on whether or not you think I should lose weight. It sounds like you are assuming things about what I think about losing weight though.

I remember now and if I could delete my posts here (it will only let me delete the one where I apologized to you) I would -- however, what I have said is how I personally feel about my own weight and how I need to handle it for the sake of my own health issues.

Going to a lab appointment now but I will check in later today.

It started off as me dieting but now it’s turned into this full blown food aversion and when I eat even something small and for the first time in a long time, I feel really sick and unable to function. It’s like my body just can’t do food anymore like it’s rejecting everything I eat. I don’t throw up although today I kind of wanted to just so I could feel better.

All of that does sound concerning. You said you expected to be diagnosed soon. Are you still speaking to one of your doctors about this?

In addition to ED's there is also something Ive heard of called "disordered eating". I dont know if thats its own ED or not but IMO it isnt all that healthy. The idea behind disordered eating is a preoccupation with food, calorie intake, meals, etc.
Also preoccupation with your physical body and appearance. Disordered eating involves unrealistic restrictions with foods and sometimes a bargaining phase where you might make deals with yourself- I.E. " I am going to only eat 550 calories for the next five days and binge on the weekend". Of course I do not know if any of this qualifies as an ED but IMO it should. I had disordered eating and an unhealthty obsession on body and weight but never quite made the threshhold for an ED.

Do you rapidly lose weight with just disordered eating? I’m losing a pound a day.
