I know I don’t usually post here but struggling today. I have always had a bad time with eating and my body, whether it’s under eating or over eating. I don’t think I’ve ever liked my body at all, it’s never really felt like mine.
At the start of this year I got pregnant, and had hyperemesis. I lost a lot of weight quickly. I’m on medication and in the last month or so I have put on everything I lost and more, and am obviously looking wider than I was before I got pregnant. My mother keeps commenting on how huge I am, how I shouldn’t eat all my food and how I won’t fit through a door soon (I don’t think this is actually true, but then it’s more confusing, why would she say this) and I’m feeling really anxious and like I need to lose weight now...not after I’ve had the baby. I don’t know what to do, I just feel awful. |

Your mom shouldn’t say that crap. Of course you are going to put on weight when you’re pregnant, that’s how it works. She sounds like a *****. Sorry, but one’s mom shouldn’t say that stuff to her pregnant daughter. She should know better. Don’t listen.

First off, ask your MD, NOT YOUR MOM how much weight is healthy to gain. Remember, your nutrition DIRECTLY EFFECTS your baby. Be wise in what you eat & eat healthy. When I was pregnant (1977/8) I demanded no junk food be allowed in the house. I was able to exercise & swam every day. I gained 15 lbs & lost the last month because I was stressed about having a c-section. With My healthy eating I had a daughter who was 8 lbs 2 ounces & very healthy. What we eat does determine our weight but also our babies health. Think about your baby & your weight will stay fine

I agree with Eskielover to consult your doctor and focus on eating healthy (what you eat). I gained more weight than I should have with both of my pregnancies but it all came back off because I was able to breast feed. I hope you have the opportunity to do this. It is natural to gain some weight when you are pregnant. Try to go easy on yourself about this.

Your mom needs to knock it off, and if she doesn't you may need to set boundaries. No one - absolutely no one - should comment on how someone is gaining weight while pregnant. If I'm to be honest, I think even some healthcare providers cross a line they shouldn't cross. I was harassed by my healthcare providers over my weight gain during both pregnancies and with my son I literally gained only what they wanted me to. I just gained it "too fast" (ugh). He was TEN POUNDS and his placenta was HUGE. So literally everything I gained was him, placenta, and amniotic fluid and blood.
I had hypermesis with my daughter, and gained weight fast once it eased just a little bit. Did I lose the weight easily? No. Did breastfeeding help me lose weight? No. (It doesn't for everyone...) But none of that matters. What matters is a healthy pregnancy and the baby. I know it's hard to accept this, but at the end of the day unless your weight gain is caused by something like gestational diabetes or preeclampsia, it is perfectly okay. I know doctors like to say that 25 lb thing, but the real range is like 15 to 50 lbs being normal weight gain. So, relax and take it easy. I'm glad you're feeling well enough to eat. Hyperemesis sucks. __________________ Love is.. Please follow the guidelines your OB sets. When your mother pulls crap remind her that you're following your doctor's directions. Period.
