I am asking the people.. that actaully have an eating disorder.. or have recovered... because... I would very much like your opinion..

an opinion.. is just an an opinion... so please... there is no "right" or "wrong"

When I went to my physcian today... who I have known since she built her practice,,, I believe... about 7-8 years now..

I went to her on another matter.. but told her... my eating disorder has been out of control...

she said to me.... well that is completely psychriatic... and you know where you can go for that... meaning the psych hospital..

I told her:... I disagree... it is... there is also a physical componet.... when you have had an eating disorder for many years... your body "forgets" how to process.. protein.. and some of the other nutrients.. and I need help with that..

she... really... I mean... really... did not agree.. ED..is "in your head".. and has no physical aspects...

I refuse.. to allow her to discourage me... I hurt from her reaction...there is no educating her.. I have tried...

The internist... that I went to... wanted.. to treat my asthma... and such... but.. the thing I went for help with processing food.. and getting nutrients.. to stay in my body.. I got no help..

For me... it is like.. a woman that I knew who was a strict vegitarian... for years... then "out of the blue"... she ate a steak... and she was so sick from it... because... her body... had "forgotten" how to "break down" that steak...

So... for me... I am sorry to say... the medical community as a whole.. does not understand eating disorders..

And.. yes.. a person does need to do the work themselves.. but the physical things like Gerd.. and IBS.. and things like that... the physicans can certainly.. help...perhaps.. there are even vitamins out there... things like that... but.. since my physcian will not discuss my ED.. I will never know...

Montoring my blood pressure.. because just in 5 days of eating every few hours... it has dropped.. 30 points on the top... and 17 points on the bottom.. who... is to help me with that??? and that drop.. is due to my eating...
who.. is to help me.. because it is too low... and she didn't even look at it today...
I don't understand... I truely.. don't...

it is an annoying thing - psych drs do not want anything to do with physical symptoms while medical drs don't want anything to do with psych patients even with physical probs.

your physician knows the type of things she feels comfortable and experienced in dealing with, and obviously she does not have experience in dealing with eating disorders- both mental and physical aspects. although she maybe hasn't communicated this very well. a good psychiatrist should be aware of the physical sequelae of eating disorders. has she pointed to any drs who can help? psychiatrists are drs so they should be able to monitor and treat basic physical probs.

I think your physician was out of line and uninformed - but it seems like so many are. For years I was a very strict vegetarian and when my doctor of years told me I needed to quit being a vegetarian I asked him whether my body would rebel - he said oh no - it does not make any difference what you eat. Well I ate meat and got sick - many many times. There are still certain foods - meat, fats - that I have a very hard time tolerating and he is still clueless.

I think you have to listen to your body and make gradual eating changes. What doctors fail to remember is that when we are babies we don't just start off eating big hunks of prime rib and stuff like that. We start off eating pureed veggies and fruit and add in some pureed meat - but if you look in the babyfood isle it is mostly fruits, veggies, yogurt, custard, cereals. If babies whose systems are just learning how to digest food have to eat that stuff then why would a doctor think that an adult, whose food intake has been skewed, whose body is simply not used to processingfood, can just jump into eating everything and not have problems. Morons!

Anyway to find a speciality doctor who knows a thing or two about the physical responses and problems of an ED?

Your Physician was wrong wrong wrong. She was probibly afraid she would give a wrong diagnosis or something.
