Hi,,,, I am new here. My name is Amber. I am 26, married and have a son that will be 2 in August. I was wondering if any of you guys deal with alcoholism as well as your ED. I am struggling a little with this. I was sent to a rehab b/c my husband thought I was alcoholic, but I was drinking to help keep my bulimia under control, which it did help. I think I have developed a habit for drinking, but am not dependent on alcohol. What do you think?

my girlfriend used to drink to avoid eating. She was anorexic, but she tempted me to be like her because she looked so good. I haven't ever liked beer all that much, so no i haven't ever dealt with it, but ive dealt with her having it.

i think you only depend on it for weight purposes.. if you found another way to deal with that, you wouldnt need it or want it.

welcome by the way new and questoin

I personally haven't dealt with it but i am reading a book about a girl who did almost the exact same thing. She used acohol to control her binging. The book is called "Bulimia, a guide to recovery". i found it online so i'm sure you can probably find it easily online as well.

my friend is annorexic and she drinks more than she eats
maybe there is some sort of connection
alchohol tends to make me too full to eat, but i often binge after in the middle of the night cause i crave food later.

I had an eating d/o in college (bulimia) and when I started drinking/using heavily, I was suddenly able to get through life without b/p. Fast forward about 15 years - I decided it was time to quit drinking, went to AA, and WHAM - eating d/o came back. It was so frustrating and discouraging. Now I'm in therapy, and feel like I'm finally (fingers crossed) getting a handle on it.

For me, the alcoholism and the eating d/o were both serving the same purpose - to make sure that I don't feel anything, ever. Now I'm learning how to feel....scary, but, in the end, hopefully good.

I can relate, although I have an eating disorder not otherwise specified because I throw up regular or small size meals (without binge eating). And I often drink or pop pills in addition to the vomiting. I was hospitalized when I was 17 for binge drinking on a regular basis (I was blacking out several times a week). I've gotten better over the past few years, but it's still a struggle. Hang in there!
