What are some good exercises to tone the legs/thighs that have worked for you?

I started the Insanity workout 3 weeks ago and this has produced great results for me. Best exercise is the lunge, the 'sitting in a chair' bend and wall sit. I hold weights when I do these too and this produces faster results. Going up and down slowly on your toes, exercises the calf muscles....doing it on one leg gets more results. If you have access to weight machines, the one where you're sitting and raising the weight bar works good. Sitting too much is your enemy.

I don't think I'm ready/capable of doing the Insanity workout at this moment. I'm not overweight, but I'm looking to get into shape. I find myself getting tired very fast and short of breath - I have an appt to get checked out next week. Would something like bicycling, walking + swimming be a good start?

I have done the P90x workout for a while. It requires certain items, but it really made my legs burn. Although most of the leg exercises don't really require the videos. Lynn P said the chair and wall sit, which is totally effective and will make you hate your legs for sure. After the hurt goes away, it gets easier. Simple squats works too.

Swimming, cycling, and walking are all amazing exercise. For both legs and cardio. More toning than building muscle. So you can do that!

Its always a good idea to get a checkup from a doctor before exercising. I didn't exercise for almost 3 yrs, so I wasn't toned. I managed to do the Insanity workout - sweat like a pig, took breaks and didn't do a couple of the moves. Honestly saw results starting after 3 days.

Sure biking, swimming and walking like you're late for 40 mins will help. Weights will also build muscles the fastest. I have free weights and hold them while doing the lunge and one leg chair sit. The Insanity workout uses the Interval training - you build up to intense aerobics, then get a 30 second break etc. I got tired of feeling weaker, so I just dove into it. Good luck.

for your legs you could do squats, they're easy to do after only a few tries, balance is the only thing you need to get a hold off for the going down part, also jogging/running is great.
