My doctors have ALL agreed I need bariatric surgery to lose weight that's causing me some obesity related health issues... and more or less smothering me if I lay down( more then just sleep apnea.. I mean SMOTHER) I am five foot two inches and weigh 284( I know.. what a PIG) . I wanted the LAP BAND but my doctors seem more interested in doing a sleeve gastrectomy on me... I absolutely turned down the Roen Y bypass. I am not sure I want the sleeve either but I sure am tired of the health issues and possibility of losing my transplanted heart due to obesity. as is my BMI is 51.8 cholesterol is sky high and high BP despite the beta blocker. I have severe low back pain ALL THE TIME unless I am sitting and worsening knee pain from osteo arthritis. My body simply can't take all this weight. We have tried medical diet,fitness programs.. even phnetermine for weith loss but nothing really works.. maybe 10 pounds in six months IF we are lucky. I know I need surgery but boy have I been a royal BEAR over it.. I don't do so great with major changes.. and this sure would be one. And the Liquid preop diet for TWO WEEKS with protein shakes... BORING! The sleeve can't be reversed either like lap band so that don't help my depression and anger. I have discussed this with my therapist who thinks what I feel is normal. my aprehension about having parts of me altered or mutilated. My feelings are the same for BYPASS too but not for lap band which I DID want. I also suffer GI problems like ulcerative colitis and constant runs. and sometimes abdominal pains. I DO eat very small meals now since it's part of my GI regimmine. large meals I am most likely to get the runs. and I can't have sugar now... it makes me sick despite NO diabetes. now what to do?

there are some really good support groups out there. try this one. it is full of good information to help ease your mind. Good luck with this decision. I did not have one like I wanted but thank goodness I have been able to get some off without it. still a long way to go but working on it.
