I'm having a tough time finding a good exercise routine. I tried yoga and got vertigo. I tried riding a bike and ended in the ER with heat stroke. Maybe I'll try mall walking. I don't tolerate heat well.

I went to the gym and did my weight workout for about 40 min, then walked around a bit... and bought a snack that wiped out any calories I burned during my workout, whoops!
I hadn't done my weight routine for nearly 2 weeks, so glad to get back to it. |

Checking in, I did run tonight even though it was rainy, did a variable speed session and enjoyed it.

Good planning to take it easy. So much is about showing up in the first place. I just couldn't get it done today. I consoled myself later by taking a bucket of soapy water outside and scrubbing my exercise mat down. It needed that, and I got something useful taken care of. |

I've heard of yoga with chairs and yoga moves for people with various physical issues. Maybe the instructor knows something or someone along those lines. Some of my classes are indoors, which isn't as nice during a pleasant, cool summer like we've had around here. But air conditioning is *so* good when you need it. Mall walking sounds good. Heck, anything helps. After a few years of avoidant and sedentary living, I was in very poor shape. I started with some stretching classes and consistent dog walking. (The dogs were getting walked before. They just got walked a lot more ) Good luck finding something. |

I agree, mall walking sounds like a good indoor option, I live in a cool climate and can't imagine how hard it must be to cope with the heat.
There's always Tai chi, which is very gentle, not as tough as yoga. |

Hey Cepheid, that's good going, you adapted to what you could do in the circumstances.
Every training programme needs a step back sometimes, body and mind need it from time to time. I had a lot of rest days in prep for my half marathon today, I did it! |

another check in:
Sun: couldn't find the strength/will, spent about 5-10 minutes on some mild core stability exercises as a last ditch effort in the evening Mon: stretching class only, pretty sedate Tue: crashed completely again, failed to do weights Wed: still a mess, did my most intense solo cardio session ever to somewhat blot out the distress Thu: plyoga class, disastrous, I should not have gone Fri: today, still distraught, no exercise (ref: Sun the 10th, Tue 12th, Fri 15th) |

Hey Cepheid, don't be too hard on yourself - I can see you got some activities in last week even though you were struggling, that is an achievement.
A friend said to me it's the workouts we struggled with we should feel the most proudest of. I have only ran twice this week, the first was a mile recovery run, second was a 5k, and I really need to get the motivation to run right now. Ugh, I'm saying to myself 'just do it' as the well known sports brand ad says. |

Also, I was in quite a bit of a tailspin and couldn't seem to post anything worthwhile in any of the other forums. So I posted a relatively thought-free update here (with mood commentary). I sort of bunched my stuff into the one post. Quote:
(When I said I should not have gone to the one class, that was because of the emotional stuff.) Quote:
Thanks again, and good luck! |

Thu: class (struggled on this one)
Fri: lightly experimented with core exercises again Sat: weights Sun-Wed: really hot and humid weather + no air conditioning = no exercise Thu (today): class (did suprisingly okay here) It's unlikely there will be any more really hot weather this year, but I'll need to consider what to do next summer during any potential heat waves. |
