My doctor sent me for a metabolic test, but its an out of pocket test that costs $175. I really have to plan for such an expense, but would it really be helpful? I think my metabolism is affected by meds but fine, is there anything they could do anyway to fix a low metabolism?

Have they checked thyroid levels recently or in the past since low levels can be treated with medications. Hypothyroidism can make it more difficult to lose weight. Certain meds can make it more difficult to lose weight since some increase appetite. A dietitian and/or fitness trainer can help give tips on improving metabolism.

I think it's worth it. I now know how many calories I can eat without gaining weight. My doc says eating red spicy peppers can speed up metabolism, but I don't like spicy foods. Maybe you do, though.

She tried Metformin to help get my metabolism going, but it had bad side effects on me such as diarrhea.

Also, more exercise/activity can help.

And caffeine such as in green tea--and a moderate amount of caffeine such as in coffee and other things in general, if your doctor okays it.
