I've found goal setting for exercise a great way to actually make it happen. What's worked for me is the set goals, but not just one goal. Some days I have more motivation than others, but I know that no matter what, there is a minimum that I can do that's...not that painful. At the same time, a "strive to do" goal can also be one that motivates me further. The "strive to" must always be something I CAN manage. For example, right now I know I can NOT walk all the way to the store. That would unreasonable at this juncture, even if others can, easily. The minimum? Hey, it can be as little as 10 jumping jacks, 4 sit cups, and 1 minute of stretching. May sound piddly, but it's better than nada.
Does anyone want to participate in this? My minimum today: Water my gardens and do five minutes of stretching either outside or in the house. Can be done at different times. Will add both to my calendar so the reminder bugs me to do it. My strive to: Convince Hubby to drive to a trail and walk briskly for at least 30 minutes. |

I am very limited in what I can do with my back. But I just bought an under desk pedal exerciser. Sitting my back doesn’t hurt. It took a couple different chairs to find the right one for me. I had thought 30 minutes to start, ha ha. I’m in no shape. So I watch master minds and pedal during the questions. That’s about 20 minutes going and stopping but I need to build my stamina up. My first goal is 30 minutes, then 45, 60. I’d like to get to the point I can pedal every time I watch tv. You can also exercise your arms with this machine. I can do about ten minutes before my neck gets too stiff. I’m seeing the dr about my spine next week. I’m sure he’ll like my planes and I’m asking for acupuncture to supplement it. As my neck has been a real pain lately.
That’s enough for now I’ll tackle diet later __________________ Nammu …Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. …... Desiderata Max Ehrmann |

@Soupe du jour:
Just came across this thread now (12:51pm). What a great (and tough!) idear! I got groceries already so that was really exhausting. My minimum exercise goal for the rest of the day is pretty unambitious since the morning was so stressful. I want to put my groceries away when they're delivered and to take my dog out this afternoon as we hit 30 Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) at 2:00pm and stay there until 5:00pm. Everyone is going mad at the good weather! My maximum goal would be to also walk my dog when i take her out, not just to the dog-park and sit in a lawn-chair and not just let her run loose. But i doubt very much it will happen. |

I’ve been doing fairly well at keeping up my exercise Monday-Friday because 3pm when Masterminds is on I’m pretty much already home and it’s late enough in the day that I’m awake. My errands and chores are done. I’m getting to the point I can almost keep it up for 20 minutes straight. But I have to do it on the weekends too. That’s not much, 20 and 10. My doc appointment was switched to today. I really hope he says yes to the needles. Acupuncture is my first choice, PT second and no chiropractor, not for my neck.

I didn't get my walk in today. I went to get dressed and i didn't have any panties so today became Laundry Day instead. I got a fair bit of exercise slinging the heavy laundry basket around and bending and stretching and dashing to-and-from the laundry room which is at the other end of the hall.
Still disappointed in myself but there's a heat warning today and i just got vaxed yesterday so maybe it's for the best. I hate to cancel on my one close neighbor but we texted so we still kept in touch. Also, i got up at 2:30am with an aching lower-back. Painkiller helped immensely. It's been a long day and it's only 3:00pm! Craving salt... Last edited by Anonymous41462; May 21, 2021 at 02:22 PM.. |

Did my 20 minutes of pedaling and 10 minutes of arm cycles. My doctor did refer me to acupuncture but the rule is you have to do PT first. So I’m awaiting a call from PT folks. That will add to my minimum excercise

Today my minimum exercise goal is to do one load of laundry. My maximum goal is to do three loads of laundry, sweep and mop the floors, do the dishes and walk my dog. I'm behind in my housework. Should make some good progress today.

I didn’t do the pedal machine today. Went to a nearby town to see my granddaughter in a dance recital. That was walking a bit more than I usually do so I counted that as my minimum for today. Plus I’ve only had a salad.

@Nammu and all:
Informal exercise counts too. My minimum exercise goal today is to do one more load of laundry. I don't have a maximum goal today as it will be thunderstorms all day -- no good for walking. I've already been outside with my dog in the dog park for an hour so she is all taken care of for the day. It was good to get out before the weather hit and before the mosquitos come out. They're terrible this year! Have a beautiful day!!! Jane. |

I walked on the treadmill today for 30 minutes and did a lot of exercises in my apartment with my 8lb weights.

Today I plan on doing my pedal thing. 30 minutes on the pedals with feet and 10 minutes with hand/ arms.
