I've used TV shows for background noise/to distract myself since I was 16. I would definitely prefer doing other things, so I don't know if it qualifies as an addiction. However, I can't imagine going without it unless I had something else to keep me occupied. A show or movie, however bad, keeps me from dwelling on my thoughts. While that lets me be content, I struggle to do anything that could make me happy in the long run (e.g. starting a new hobby). So, it's not a pleasant dilemma.
