Yeah, kind of, for me. I can find anything I want on the internet, considering what my interests are. There usually isn't a lot around me that I care for, though.

I certainly think it may make life seem boring, especially if you put yourself in that kind of mindset. I also feel that I spend too much time online simply full of information and distractions, time can just fly by when you're online. I think everyone thinks real life can be dull to some degree. The example I think of from not too long ago is Prince William and Kate marriage many people seemed really be into it in the US. I think people like the fairy tale aspect of it and some might feel that real life sucks. In reality I think someone or something just instilled that thought into you. All the movies, music, talk news etc. Basically I think you should not get lost on a fantasy or the internet or any forum of tech for that matter. Easier said than done but yea finding other activities and hobbies to keep you busy and help get your mind off of the internet. Or use the internet for something productive, informative and for your health/well being.
By the way, I think anyone and everyone being or using this website/forum is already doing something to help themselves out.

I dont think life is boring but, online is the next best thing when everything out there is so far away.

I like reading arguments and flame wars.

Somehow at first it is exciting, but it can not replace real offline friendships.

My son have the same day routine as you. With my wife, we decided to don't allow him to spend all day behind the computer screen. We buy PCWebcontrol software and use it to protect him but I'm sure it's not enough...

A major draw of mine to the Internet is to gain knowledge from credible websites. I'm not a student anymore, I maxed out with a postgrad degree. I'm fine with that. I just have an intense curiosity about so many things and I want to learn. I'm unable to satisfy this need outside the Internet. I supplement with reading but find the Internet to be more comprehensive and up to date.

I also use the Internet to self-teach ways to improve my health as I have MI and chronic pain to manage. The Internet is a good source that I supplement with IRL treatment and support.

I balance it by not doing social media and rarely visit YouTube. I have OCD and can get stuck on a topic or website until I am satisfied I'm "through"...I have to limit swirling drains. I watch very little tv, don't have tv cable. I choose to be online or read. I save gobs of money from not buying so many darn books.

The outside world doesn't bore me although mainstream interests have always lacked general appeal for me. I don't know why. I don't work so I get my responsibilities IRL done and I'm introverted by nature. I do prefer IRL friends due to trust issues and I think it is more of an authentic experience.

Maybe I am addicted, though. I can't even count the number of tabs I have open lol.

I hope anyone concerned about their usage can succeed on cutting back. If it isn't a positive experience or substantially affects daily living...it may be a sign to make changes.
