I'm preparing for my first disability hearing and though I have 8 years of documentation & the psych the state sent to do my evaluation seems to agree that in incapable of functioning in the general public, I think I should have my own eval done. I think a competent psychiatrist would be sufficient, but I've been told a neuro psych would be deemed more qualifie. have any feedback?

The answer depends upon what your disability has been awarded for. What did Social Security reason as the cause/s of your disability?

For me, this Q is much too broad (right now) to offer any helpful advice. Sorry ~ but please write back with specifics so that someone with experience in that area could offer their knowledge to you.

I am still fighting for it. But, the listed conditions are: severe agoraphobia, panic disorder presenting with severe panic attacks, ptsd , insomnia, night terrors, disassociative personality disorder, severe depression, severe paranoia ranoia, and some left to be diagnosed. I don't want to play the waiting for years game and think of I can get evaluated by someone who's not afraid to be alone with me I could win my case. But that is where the question comes in, which doctor would be better suited to evaluate me & give disability the best version of my illness as a whole? Was going to take a 72 hour hold, but I have 8 year old twins who rely on me. I may not be able to leave my house, but I'm a good mother. (I'd like to think)

Hello not quite right,

A psychiatrist is a physician who specializes in diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders.

On the otherhand a neuropsychologist is a physiologist who specializes in understanding the relationship between the physical brain and behavior.

From what you have written above I would say a psychiatrist would be your best bet.

Hugs
