To make a long story short, I'm working with this chick who works with my mental health clinic trying to get me a job because I'm on disability I went in to meet with her today, and she told me she can't work with me because I don't have a SPMI. I had to google it. It means severe and persistent mental illness, and all the things I've found include bipolar disorder in the list of disorders included in that term.

So... do my doctors not think that I'm bipolar? I've had 2 psychiatrists and 3 therapists agree that I am. My current psychiatrist seems to believe I am, as well. Not so sure about my therapist because I've never asked him.

My therapist is the one that sent me to see her, but I don't see him again for a week and a half. I haven't set up a new appointment with my psychiatrist yet, but I most likely will on Friday because the stupid med she put me on made me feel high. It's a stupid system where the day you call you MIGHT get an appointment.

Any ideas? Thanks!

well that makes no sense at all because bipolar is a severe mental illness. what are you on disability for? is it not your mental illness? if not, maybe she is basing her decision on that and not your MI. she needs to get your mental health records and reevaluate your case. welcome to psych central. you will find we have several forums where you can post about your concerns and receive feedback from other members. you will get a lot of support here. again, welcome

That's what I thought! I'm on disability for a mixture of all kinds of fun, lol, that basically make it impossible for me to hold down work. Epilepsy and fibromyalgia, as well as social anxiety disorder. She could be basing it on my disability but I thought that since she got the referral from my therapist that she would have gotten records on me having bipolar disorder, but I could be wrong. She's supposed to call me about maybe getting me into vocational rehab, so I might ask her if/when she calls. Thank you so much
