Hello All,
My14yr old daughter has been taking 20mg of Prozac for about 9 months with little mood improvement. She actually seems more depressed and making poor choices with smoking pot/cigarettes and cutting again. I adore this girl and continue to seek a therapist that she will engage with, but to no avail as of yet. My main concern is that the other day she said to me "doesn't anyone understand that I just don't want to be here"? Any suggestions or information will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
D

Hello Chihuahualover1, welcome to Psych Central.

It maybe that the prozac is not the right choice of antidepressant or the dose may need adjusting. All medications have side effects but prozac does not suit all young people in particular. Not wishing to alarm you but see this link >>> Prozac - Antidepressant with Serious Side Effects

A trip back to the doctor would be a good idea.

Wow..I'm sorry for you and your daughter's struggles. I would definitely try a different medication if it were my daughter. Pegasus knows the schtick, good luck
