It's been about a month since my therapist left and the new one isn't ready to start seeing patients yet. I'm nervous about switching Ts but I promised my last one I would give it a shot. My dilemma is that the longer I go without seeing one the more I can convince myself that I'm fine and don't need help (I do, it's just a symptom of my issues). I know it'll be about another 2-3 weeks before I can schedule anything with the new T but how do I stop the self doubt until then? I feel like I'm taking up time that someone with bigger problems probably needs and annoying the T. I felt this way with the last one too. If it helps I deal with avoidant personality disorder, PTSD, General and social anxiety.

Hello Dustyharley2, I'm sorry about your old T but that one recommended you see another one, so you have it on authority that a professional feels you need to see another. I would write down a list of reasons why it would be good to continue your therapy and stick it on the fridge or somewhere you look often. A reminder that you deserve support and a reminder that it is part of your symptoms to deny it. I would also suggest writing in a journal or diary your thoughts to share with your new T in a few weeks time, this will keep the focus on working towards that meeting.

Thanks, the journaling is a great idea and it'll help me open up to the new T. You're right too that if my old one recommended continuing therapy then I still need it and I am worth it. I'll post that on the fridge now. Thank you
