I've been unemployed for two years and am unable to maintain a job due to extreme depression and anxiety issues. I manage to survive on food stamps and ssi income (For a child with autism) - All of that goes straight to rent, power, and water with only $20 left over usually for the month. I'm married with 3 children. I've had "health counseling" before, but after 3 months I never got any help from anyone, just various prescriptions - none of which worked, and most made my condition worse.

Even then, I had to panhandle to get the money necessary to pay to be seen. But the place that I was going to banned me for missing an appointment (due to a severe panic attack).

Is there anywhere I can get some real help?

You don't mention if you have health insurance. If you don't, you can call 211 (United Way) and they are very good about having a database of providers in your area.

I lost my health insurance at the end of last year and am now going to a mental health care agency that has meds management and both individual and group therapy. If you don't have health insurance and have a low income, the co-pays are $5 per visit, but if people can't afford that, they won't turn you away.

It's worth a check to see if there's something like that available where you live. I know that NC, SC, & GA have agencies like this. It just depends if they have an office in the town where you live.

I hope you find something.

Where in NC are you? I received free mental health care--with discounted prescription prices and/or samples--when I lived in Durham. Feel free to PM me if you want more details, as I'm not sure if I'm allowed to list the names of the specific places here.

Yes there are doctors that do very minimum "pro bono" work.. I hope you find a solution.

You mentioned you are married... what does your spouse think you should do?

Well, JD she is at a loss as well. And I believe she needs the help as much as I if not more.

8^8an, The U.S. doesn't offer as many programs as they used to. And the state I live in offers very little.
