Hi everyone,

I just started a new position in the emergency room dept. I have been a nurse for 5 years on a telemetry floor and thought I knew it all, decided to transfer to emergency room. Now I am anxious everyday, depressed about this position. I have tried to have a different outlook about things, but I feel that I will never get it!
I have no one to talk to about this. All my nursing friends just keep telling me it will get better or I can always transfer back to my old unit in 6 months.
Is there anything I can do to help me feel less anxious and depress about this very busy, intense department?

Hello there,

How long have you been in the ER dept? It's very fast paced, you need to be on your toes all the time but it can be extremely rewarding. I would give it a month or so but I know with me, I can tell straight away if it's a good fit. Can you talk to your supervisor/mentor about what you are struggling with? There should be someone that you can go to to talk things through, you might find that you are actually doing just fine. Make sure that you get your breaks, breathe and treat yourself on your days off.
