A friend of mine has a mental disorder (I think) but I don't know what it is. She constantly blames herself for something she had done in the past. She told me that she is an introvert, she wants to be alone most of the time. I know, I kind of understand her because I am also an introvert myself but her case, maybe, is way beyond what an introvert is. I've known her for a year now. Every time I ask her if how she's doing, she would answer me with a smile, but I know and I see the pain behind those smiles.

I'm the same way I always say I'm fine because I don't want people to worry. Just try to be there for your friend when they're ready they will open up to you.

I do try to play things down a bit or say I'm fine on a better day (or always depending on who it is), I don't want to bore people as I've been low for so long and in many ways this is my 'new normal' so I'm okay isn't really untrue, also it takes time to trust people and know when they really want to know. With patience, hopefully your friend will learn you are a safe person and will open up some of the time. Good luck and thanks for being a good friend.
