You always hear about Schizophrenia being an all-negative disorder. Nothing good comes out of it. The voices people hear and their hallucinations are all bad. But is it possible that it can be the opposite? What do you call it if the things you hear/see aren't hurting you, but healing you?

Hi, LaLa. Is this what you are experiencing? Unfortunately I don't have a healing form of sz. I think if someone did they probably would not be diagnosed with schizophrenia. The negative symptoms of schizophrenia can be worse than the positive ones.

I'm diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder (sza). I have to say that at first my hallucinations weren't so bad. I thought that they were helpful and healing. I based my spiritual beliefs on them. It wasn't until they got scary that I sought help for my sza.

Wow. I wish my symptoms would "heal me." My late husband's hallucinations and voices led him to his death.

I'm so sorry for your loss shortandcute. Yeah, for just about a good ten years I based my spiritual beliefs on my symptoms. Again, they were very helpful and healing.

Well, if they were helpful to you, then that's not a bad thing.

If it helps you, really and truly helps you, seems to me it's not a problem.

Yeah, it really wasn't a problem. That's why I went ten years living by them and never thought to tell my doctor about it because they were "spiritual," "a gift," and just part of me being "psychic." It's when they became scary that I sought help.

I am a schizophrenic, and my thoughts, hallucinations and delusions are unbearable, and not very helpful to me. I can't have a clear mind in things, however if they are helping and even healing you, i don't see why it would be a problem.

There are many types of monsters that scare me: Monsters who cause trouble without showing themselves, monsters who abduct children, monsters who devour dreams, monsters who suck blood... and then, monsters who tell nothing but lies. Lying monsters are a real nuisance: They are much more cunning than others. They pose as humans even though they have no understanding of the human heart; they eat even though they've never experienced hunger; they study even though they have no interest in academics; they seek friendship even though they do not know how to love. If I were to encounter such monsters, I would likely be eaten by them... because in truth, I am that monster.

my son has schizophrenia and while at times he sees his delusions as helpful to both him and the world more times then not the voices and delusions get to him. He has been civilly committed 4 times now and he is only 21.
