shouldn't there be a wheening off of one drug before you start taking another drug? I ask because my girlfriend is taking paxil now for about 2 months or so and today she phoned her so called dr. and all she did was ask for the xanax and she was given them. This so called dr. of hers has also prescribed 2 medications that if taken together would have killed my girlfriend...it was actually the pharmasist who phoned and warned us about this mistake. My girlfriend has addiction to tylnol 3 with codein but her dr. has given them to her no questions asked...I am so afraid for her but she won't listen to anyone...she's been to the crisis center twice now because of all the drugs...now after reading about the side effects of xanax I am even more afraid because apparently this drug can make her anger intensify and she does get angry alot if i don't give her what she wants...I feel like I am fighting a losing battle...I suffer from my own depression and anxiety...it's very hard to manage her and myself at the same time...I feel so overwhelmed right now...I dont know what to do...

No, you don't need to taper off Paxil before you start Xanax. Furthermore, you can take both medications at the same time.

You need to take care of yourself right now.
