I recently read a book of fiction, that paralleled a chunk of my life. A part that I guess I haven't completely worked thru. It hit me hard, and knocked me off my feet. Today in session with my Psychologist, he asked me what the pain felt like? I don't have any Idea how to answer his question! Anyone else have any ideas?

I think it'll depend upon whether one is talking about physical or emotional pain, but assuming you are talking about emotional pain I have heard it described as a deep ache, smothering, heaviness, etc. It is interesting (to me) that both physical and emotional pain uses the same neural pathways in the brain explaining why during periods of intense emotional pain one can feel physical pain in the chest or abdomen - hence the terms 'gut-wrenching' or 'heartache'.

Yagr Thank you for your reply. I was talking about emotional pain. It makes more sense to me now. I agree with you, it is very interesting about the neural pathways.

The Yagr described it exactly the way I'm feeling right now. Add more I feel worthless/loser, feeling of escape/wanting the pain to go away, helpless, mild anger, don't know what to do. STRESSED. I know I'm not alone. But in the end of this I am alone.

I was just asked today to describe my emotional pain. I informed them I once gave birth to a 12lb baby. When I am in emotional pain I would gladly go through all that again if it meant escaping the hell I feel.

I'm with you. Rather give birth than feel emotional pain.
