I am getting a new job, and part of the checks they want to do to me is a 45 minute medical assessment.. Does anyone have any idea what kinda stuff this will cover, cause its quite a long time and I haven't had a medical before, and I'm concerned I will fail if there's a psychological element

I'm sorry, I really don't know what might be involved. Maybe someone else here does and can help out with your question. Congratulations on the new job.

I doubt there will be much of a psychological element; it's mostly for how much you might cost for insurance? They're perhaps trying to make sure they don't hire anyone with too many ongoing issues. The psychological elements will probably only be behavioral; how much you smoke, drink, etc. They would not want to be surprised later with you then popping up to say, "Well, I've always had X, Y, or Z condition and now I need your help." They don't want you using them to get help/medical care or time off when they think they're hiring a "healthy" person who is able to do the job, isn't just mentally good for the job.

I had that a long time ago when I worked for a department store (but there was no insurance), had to go see their recommended doctor, etc.

Thank for the response, I didn't mention I'm in the UK so it's all on the NHS anyway, i think it's just so I don't sue them for causing me to develop a medical condition. 45 mins is a long time though, all other ones I have done have been about 10 mins and were just looking at my file and saying yep, that's fine, bye now... I dunno, I just don't like the idea of people prodding and poking me and asking awkward questions

45 min sounds normal to me. Most of mine have been about that long.
