There are very few things that trigger me, let alone leave me with physical/emotional symptoms.

But child abuse triggers me. On facebook, a friend shared a video that contained verbal child abuse. I won't go into details, but it makes me nauseous and I can't get those images/sounds out of my head and I can't imagine how someone could treat a child in such horrible ways. It makes me so upset.

The problem with facebook is that this video was shared on a page. I can unlike the page, but there are other pages that may come up with similar videos. How can I avoid this?

you report the video to face book they will take it down and make it so that even though it has been shared they will back track it and delete it in a way that makes it impossible to be played. usually what happens is people find a video on you tube then it gets shared. by facebook blocking it on those levels it renters it unable to play on facebook

Have you explained to your friends that child abuse is a trigger for you? I had to let people know that videos and stories about animal abuse are triggers and I will unfollow timelines if any triggers are posted and show up in my feed. To some this may sound unreasonable but we have to do what we have to do when it comes to protecting ourselves.

There is a way to hide certain posts. If you go to that post that triggered you you can click the drop down thing and say hide post..then it comes up with options so you can hide all from that person/group/page. The page you liked probably isn't the original source of the post so you'll be able to hide them from the actual post, rather than the page you like. Hope that makes sense.

While it doesn't completely get rid of the risk of seeing others, it would hopefully reduce it a bit.

I hide a lot of posts, and unfriend a lot of people for certain things. Do you what you gotta do to try and keep yourself safe. Self preservation is key

unfortunately videos on facebook now no longer need you to point or click on it. they automatically play as the video gets in your screen when scrolling to read any posts that your friends have posted. once the video is at a point where its not touching the bottom or top of your screen it plays.

anyone can report offensive videos to facebook for their removal by going to the top of their screen and clicking on the help option or by clicking on the video itself and selecting the report\spam option if the video has that option enabled.

You can change that setting for automatic playing of videos.

I also use an app extension called FB Purity (only works on computers -- not tablets or phones). Easy to find. Just google it or go to the FB purity page on FB. It allows you to customize what you see on your FB page. For instance, I opted to not see everything my friends "like" which eliminates a HUGE amount of political/religious/triggering stuff that I didn't ask to see. I highly recommend it if you are tired of unwanted ads, unsolicited recommend friends lists, etc. I took the trending news list off the FB page because I got tired of getting drawn into all of the crazy news links, etc.

Beyond that, I am good at hitting that hide this post button pretty quickly when, despite my settings, someone still posts something I just don't care to see. I hide LOTS of political memes and links certain friends share. I don't want to unfriend them completely; I just don't want to read the politics on my FB page that I keep purely for pleasure.

You can delete such things off your time line. Then block sender. I do it all the time. I also write: "no forwarded photos/videos" please!

Lolagrace ... Fantastic advice , as always

Thank you for the info to weed out stuff on Facebook.. Didnt know that existed.

Literary.. as mentioned you have to protect yourself. I often scroll right past stuff at the first whiff of something I don't want or need to see .
