Depression or Teenage Hormones? | Ask the Therapist[/url]

I just read this forum and I largely relate to this. The user doesn't say how long he's had this going on but for me it's been for a while but now largely noticeable. I could be down and the next second hyper and happy. My palms also haven't been sweating until recently. I've been nervous a lot but only in this past week. I don't really want to tell my parents because my life is really good and other people have it worse but I don't want to keep feeling this thing dragging me down. When I feel sad I try to go out and do something or listen to happy music but sometimes it doesn't work and if it does I usually feel the same in a short amount of time. Basically this has been noticeable for me and abnormal the past week. My question is if you think it's hormones or something more serious. Thanks.

Whether it's hormones or not, it's something that needs further investigating. I'm in my early twenties and when stuff started happening in my head that I couldn't explain I was convinced it was just my hormones screwing with me. It wasn't for me. I'm not saying it's the same for you but it's worth looking into so that it doesn't hit you like a freight train once you're out of high school, like it did me. A lot hits you when you reach this age range, it's best to try and keep your struggles limited if you can help it.

In the meantime, welcome to PC. I'm glad you found us here and I hope it helps you.

Hello Rainycloud: Well... as others have said here, it could be either or both. But either way, it's worth checking out. Perhaps continuing to read, & post, here on PC will help you to gain some additional perspective with regard to what is going on with you.

I see this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! I hope you find the time you spend here to be of benefit.

PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. There are many knowledgeable & caring members here. The more you post, & reply to other members’ posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are social groups you can join & chat rooms where you’ll be able to connect with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) Lots of great stuff! So please keep posting!

I'm not sure if this could all be hormones. It's very likely. The point is, it's bothering you and that is reason enough to talk with your parents and perhaps a therapist. When I tell myself "others have it worse" I'm essentially invalidating myself and my feelings and I don't think it's helpful to the big picture. It's nice to remember the suffering of others and to care, but remember to care about yourself too. (((Hugs)))
Thanks for this!

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
