Hi,
I recently moved into a new city and there are absolutely no mental health providers in the city or surrounding cities that take my insurance. I'm on 150 mg of Lamictal/Lamotrigine and I need to keep my prescription but I just refilled the last one. Can I just go to my GP and get a prescription for this stuff? I'd really prefer not to have to drive 3-4 hours to my previous city just to talk to a person for 30 minutes and keep my prescription. I will if I have to but does anyone know of any alternatives? |

Your family doctor can probably help you out and maybe can help with a referral to a pdoc. They often don't want to handle psych meds indefinitely but will for a brief time. Or your old pdoc might help out if you call.

Yes, your family doctor can prescribe you the same medication. My own doctor has done so in an emergency in the past when my paychiatrist was unavailable.

Definitely get in to see your family doctor as soon as possible and explain the situation. Good luck to you, it'll work out.
