Hi, I've been seeing a therapist for marriage counselling (my husband came
Initially and also self-improvement/development type work, for around 2 1/2yrs now. We have a really good therapeutic relationship and I have felt comfortable sharing things with her that I haven't with anyone else. I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl 4wks ago and would like to start back going to therapy (it's been 5wks and I had been going weekly). My therapist said she doesn't mind if I bring my baby. My question is, would it be really weird/inappropriate for me to breastfeed in front of her? I am usually a very shy and modest person. I guess I don't want to create an awkward environment. Have any of you been through this before and if so, what advice do you have? Thanks in advance |

Ask the Therapist in advance if it OK to do so.

Bring a baby blanket to cover yourself so you be discrete. If your T says bring your baby I'm sure they understand that the baby needs to eat.

Bfing is fine in the therapy office! Like Shazerac posted, just cover yourself with a baby blanket.

Thanks for the replies. That is a good point that if she said to bring baby, she is likely expecting that baby will need to be fed whilst I'm there and she knew my intention was to breastfeed. She's also a mother herself, so would understand what it's like with a newborn and no feeding schedule.
I maybe just need to practice discrete feedings using a coverup! Thanks |

It will be okay to breastfeed in front of your T. You can do your best to avoid it by feeding baby immediately beforehand but babies do what they do and there will be times you may need to feed baby during your session. Cover up if it feels more comfortable for you to do so, but T should be fine with it.

Years ago, I nursed my littles wherever they needed it. I can't imagine therapy being any different, especially since the therapist said it's ok to bring baby.
I know my therapist is ok with it...Once the woman in session before me walked out still nursing her baby. It was so sweet. After she left we talked about how relaxing it is being around a nursing baby. I think it made us both a little nostalgic. |

I agree. You could use a baby blanket to protect your modesty. The therapist ought to be okay with that. Sending big hugs.
