I really want my doctor and therapist to look into Paranoid Personality disorder but everytime I bring it up the only answer they give me is "stop googling your symptoms, stop reading the DSM.

No one takes me seriously about this. I tried again today with someone else and she gave me the same response. Then afterwards I saw her go into the office with my therapist.

I don't get how to get this point across. But I feel like my symptoms are getting worse.

I suggest that you tell your doctor and your therapist exactly what you've posted here. As in, "I don't know how to communicate to you how serious my concern about Paranoid Personality Disorder is. I feel like you're ignoring me, but my symptoms seem to be getting worse. Can we talk about this?"

Yes, and specifically describe what you experience to them, too. Hope you find resolution with this!

I do agree with your Therapist about stopping Googleing. That is a self defeating loop. No need to find a label anyway.

It's possible that it may not be what you think it is though, maybe that's why.I googled PPD and I fit the symptoms, but usually only when my PTSD symptoms are in full gear.If I hadn't been diagnosed with PTSD and had read about PPD,I could very easily have assumed that's what I have. There's other disorders too that have those symptoms so maybe it's not that they're not taking your symptoms seriously, maybe they just don't want you self diiagnosing?

I agree with the previous posters about being more firm with your doctors. The least they could do is listen to your thoughts as to why you think might have that and why they think you don't. Good luck.

Just how often have you brought this up with your healthcare professionals? Are there other disorders and/or health problems you attempt to bring to their attention? What I am getting at is that it is hard to give appropriate advice when we don't know the whole story and from whence they are making these statements. Do you look up your symptoms? How often would you say you make a practise of this? For what reason would multiple professionals come to the same conclusion?

It is very rare to get a diagnosis of any PD on top of the diagnosis of Aspergers. It is only given if the symptoms cannot be explained by the AS or are very extreme.

I've just brought it up every now and then. I think I talked about 2-3 different diganosis.

Some things, like PPD, I have researched.

Other things, like dissociating, I had for years before I even looked it up.

When I read the DSM, I think I fit a whole bunch of diagnoses. There is a lot of overlap. For me, I want help with the symptoms that are disabling more than a particular diagnosis, so one thing I would wonder is what would happen if you bring up the troubling symptoms that are getting worse and ask for help with those? If you get the help you need then it doesn't really matter what they call your diagnosis.

Another option you might consider is having a full-blown psych assessment done. They are not cheap, but insurance might pay for it. When I did mine, there was several hours of doing assessments, followed by a couple hour long interview with the psychologist. He then did a written report that was 5 or 6 pages long. That might either convince your treatment providers that you do have PPD or reassure you that that particular disorder is not among the issues you need to address.
