I'm not sure where this fits, so here it goes. I was working on black Friday at a retail store. This retail was not as busy as some of the places I used to work, when I lived in the city mind you. In any case at one point I was running a register and lady was standing in front of me with her cart. I started seeing her and her cart moving away from me, and my register and me as me move in the opposite direction. I wasn't lighted headed, and my breathing didn't noticeably changed. In any case, reality did mesh back together after a few moments. I would normally call this a panic attack, but I wasn't all that anxious. I'm confused.

That happens to me all the time, many times every day. But then everything seems unreal to me. I figure it is a form of dissociation and I specifically call the experience 'derealization.'

one of my siblings worked black friday in a store as a cashier. she was telling me it was very common for workers in her store to go through this because they could not just take a break any old time they wanted to sit down, get something to drink, eat. they had scheduled breaks and some chose not to take those breaks. this caused them to have this feeling like this. their job called it muscle fatigue, stress, dehydration and bordering on fainting spells.
my suggestion next time you need to work such long hours on your feet and under stress of black friday/ holidays maybe you can pack "pocket snacks and quick high on electrolytes drinks like single serving gatoraide, sunny delight, fruit drinks and waters, that can be kept on your work stations shelf. that way between check outs you can fuel up and do a few quick leg stretch exercises to get the blood flow going again. this is what helps my sibling from having this feelings that you had. |

I've had similar things happen to me in the past. Like to know what it is too. Take care.

This happens but usually when I have low blood sugar. If I forget to eat after taking my morning meds I will get spacy. But I also have out-of-body disociative experience when I feel threatened.
