I am disheartened with online interactions and think I am going to have to give them up.

Don't get me wrong...I have interacted with some wonderful people online.

Problem is...often they are halfway round the world and I will never meet them. And after awhile just reading and writing gets boring.

Then...there are...the other ones. People I would hope to never meet IRL. People who are so nasty or rude. You know.

Sigh. I sometimes think taking breaks from social media isn't enough. Unless it's a five year break.

Sometimes I wish for a life where people aren't stuck on their phones and laptops. It makes for a very boring world. I miss the people behind the technology.

I understand your frustration. Chatting with people online is not the same as meeting them in person. But for us who struggle with social interactions it's still better than nothing.

I'm sorry if you've had negative experiences recently - bad people are everywhere. But I hope you won't give up

Ah, MickeyCheeky, you are one of the sweethearts of PsychCentral. Everyone knows that. I wish I could fly to Italy and meet you for an espresso. Also, I hope school goes well for you. My first semester in grad school I had a complete meltdown and felt I could not possibly go on. But I did...for three years. Someone (very wise, another student) said one needs to break down in order to be built anew as an advanced student. And he was right.

Too many are addicted to their smartphones. They even sleep with them.

Lol I sleep with mine on the bed, my daughter put a sleep AP on my phone , it measures how I’m sleeping , if distressed I am constantly moving around, nightmares have me literally jumping out of bed... seems that the best sleep i do get is between 2 and 4 am.

So yeah I use my phone to track and it shows me a graph. I find it interesting.

I don't even know where my phone is...it's not a smartphone...it's an old clamshell model. I already overuse on my laptop. I can't imagine having a phone at my fingertips 24/7. I never talk on it when driving or even when I am out. It's really just for an emergency. I won't be posting here for awhile. I don't feel well. I have to contact my doctor first thing tomorrow.
