There are several sounds in natural and man-made environments that trigger the 'acoustic startle response' in humans, such as barking dogs, car horns, etc. These responses are normally adaptive and beneficial; but in high stress environments like crowded neighborhoods and heavy traffic, they can be stress provoking and maladaptive and may even negatively affect critical judgement. I believe the available theraputic vectors are treating the overall startle response systemically and treating the acoustic startle response specifically.

I'd like to ask, what drugs if any now available treat the startle response systemically or the acooustic startle response specifically? Also, if no current drugs are indicated, what drugs are likely candidates?

Thanks
