I wanted to share an article from a blog and start a thread on it.
It is the best piece of journalism (are blogs journalism?) I have ever read about GOOP and Gwenyth Paltrow's snake oil brand of health and wellness. It isn't a hit piece necessarily, unless you consider science and facts defamatory. It is written by a peer reviewed, cited physician on her Women's health& wellness blog. It doesn't seem to be selling or promoting anything but there are some curse words in it- not at or about Gwenyth but in a conversational, self deprecating way Like "WTF is she talking about?" Or "Holy *****" Its not littered with them and I couldn't seem to find any crass body part references. It would be a good read for people that like science, hate snake oil saleswomen and elitist health claims.
I think its an informational piece that many people would find stimulating but it particular women. It could generate some good discussions.
Would that be allowed? And if so, which forum and section? I do not want it to get lost in the fun social sections but it doesn't seem to fit in a mental health section. Let me know what you all think..oh and of course whatever a moderator suggests goes so Mods, weigh in if you can.

Remember, science once told people to smoke because it cleared the lungs and before that, that the world was flat. I have more faith in acupuncture and other alternative methods than I do in western medicine. Just because you don't agree or don't want to do it, does not make something quackery. And the most quackish thing I can think of is therapy but any number of other people believe in it.

It wasn't science but the Tobacco industry's own snake oil approach as they leveraged doctors authority in society for their own gain. We know the earth is not flat because of science, not in spite of it. It was the establishment (including powerful people that felt they had something to lose) that didn't want to hear the earth was round by the scientist that had devoted much of his life studying it. We still see this today in science, people put their beliefs and feelings over those who have devoted decades of their life to studying one particular thing.

We all feel special but we all need to ask ourselves, am I really skilled in this area? Do I really have knowledge and practice in this to have any claim to authority? Humanity is based around specialization but since the Age of Information has begun people have the altered concept, that they now know better without the devotion of time and practice.
