Let me begin by posting my type. iNFJ-T , 51 % on T / 49% on A . I am very familiar with my type. I have come to know someone who is also this type , but was diagnosed with NPD.......have some questions about the peculiarness of this and if this type of personality stands a better chance of getting cured.

Ah, yes, I know well the INFJs. I'm not one, just for the record.

I'm not huge on typology, but from my observations, INFJs can come off as rather pretentious what with the whole "special unicorn-ness" of being labelled as the most rare personality type. Unhealthy INFJs, especially, can look a lot like narcissists. They tend to hold themselves to impossibly high standards, are extremely sensitive to criticism such that they view constructive criticism as a personal attack, become paranoid about whether or not people like them, among other things.

But even unhealthy INFJs that I've known still had a lot of empathy for others.

Is this a Meyers Brigg thing? I just read an article about how they are not reliable or based in science.

I agree with sarahsweets. It's not too reliable. It's ok for an entertainment, but you don't have to take it seriously.

Your friend just happen to has NPD and get INFJ result. It just a coincidence, nothing more. There are no scientific articles or journal to prove the link between NPD and certain personality type. In fact, if you tried to google other personality type (ie. ENTP, etc), there are a lots of self-made theory about the link mostly from quora or other forum.

As for the cure, since it does not have the link, I think it depends on oneself, not based on 16 personality.

Well, it's a helluva lot better than a horoscope, but it doesn't come close to something like the MMPI-2. Then again, the MMPI-2 is something like 5 hours long and requires a licensed professional to interpret the results, whereas the MBTI can be taken online for free. So, yeah, it's mostly for entertainment. Also, it doesn't really test for personality, but rather for how each individual processes information, which can be helpful to a degree, but I'd still take it with a grain of salt.

I agree with this. I think those personality types are over-simplified...not that accurate. But folks do find them interesting. I can't remember which one I was, long time ago.
