Okay so I am on heavy meds for my borderline personality disorder and Bulimia, and for being paranoid ,suicide thoughts. I was wondering is it rude or normal not to say hi/hello to someone passing by or to the staffI don't feel comfortable saying anything to anybody.. Yet if I see someone with a cute dog I always ask to pet the dog and I have no problems .??

What should I say instead of hello??

dogs are cute, and I do exactly the same thing- if someone's walking with a dog, I'll always ask to stroke it. sometimes they'll say no (if the dog is feerce or in distress), but that's fine.

I don't say hello to people I don't want to either. I'll usually give like a nod or glance in their direction to let them know I've not completely ignored them and I am aware, or if I say something it will be what I'm doing.

for example I might say "I'm going home now", clearly indicating that I'm their for a purpose and that's what I intend to do. if they do insist on talking or asking questions, I just walk on

I COMPLETELY understand what you mean, @princesscookie19! Yes, I have an hard time saying "Hello" as well, especially to strangers, because of my social anxiety. I'm not sure if that's the same reason YOU are not doing it or is something else but you're ABSOLUTELY not alone in this! I'm not sure about the Dogs. Perhaps you just find them irresistable like raging vortex has already WISELY and WONDERFULLY said! I'd say just give a short "Hi" when you can and hopefully that will be enough. I'm sure that your Medical Stuff will understand your struggles. Perhaps you can explain it to them why you're not saying Hi to them. I'm sure they'll understand what you mean! Certainly you're not the first to have this problem! Please be kind to yourself! Sending many safe, warm hugs to you and your Loved Ones, @princesscookie19! Feel free to PM me ANYTIME when in need of Advice and Support! I'm sur eplenty of others will gladly help you as well! Keep fighting and keep rocking like you're already wonderfully doing all and entirely by yourself! KEEP FIGHTING AND KEEP ROCKING!

I believe that because I want the world to be a more loving place, that intention starts with myself. So if I possibly can manage it, I smile and say hello to everyone I encounter. Honestly, I also believe doing so is simple an expression of good manners.

Where I live now everyone is friendly & it is normal to say hi & talk to even strangers. Just like in driving along the road it is normal to acknowledge others with a hand wave when passing by.

I find this actually good even though strange when I first moved here but it got me outside of muself & my own little world & really helped me connect with others in a new town where I didn't know anyone
