I will be transitioning soon and I’m wondering who and what to tell. I’ve already told a few close family members. But that’s it. Obviously my treatment team knows. My doctor says I don’t have to tell work. My mom says I should at least inform management in case any harassment goes on. I’m not sure though. Did anyone who transition make a formal announcement on Facebook? I’ve been debating about doing that down the road since I have a ton of family on Facebook. But again I’m not sure. Part of me doesn’t really want anyone to know besides the people who know me the best.

I would say do what you are comfortable with. If you are comfortable making a formal announcement on Facebook, then do it. It may make things easier down the line, but then it may complicate things too.
Just know that not everyone will be okay with the news. Some people will not understand or not agree with the idea of trans. People all have their own opinions. But what's most important is that you feel comfortable in who you are and your body. If someone doesn't agree or is nowhere near supportive, they may not be someone you want to be around for awhile.

If you don't tell your work, that could cause you problems legally-speaking.

But yeah I agree that I should be telling them just my doctor and therapist seemed to think it was unnecessary for some reason.

Mountaindewed I urge you to consult with an attorney pro bono before you reveal your transition to your workplace. If you don't, you could be fired. You need to go in, knowing all of your legal rights or you will get screwed. Count on it. People don't like change, esp. when one of their colleagues changes genders. I've seen it as a temp how cruel and sadistic workplaces can act towards the transgender person. They show no mercy. It's horrible. Do not think for a second, that everyone will be supportive of your change there either. You have to go in with thick skin. You need to come up with a plan.

Thank you. I live in a very liberal state and it is illegal for my workplace to fire me because I’m transgender. I am also only going to be at this job for another year before moving 3 hours away to be closer to family. If I need to quit due to harassment or for whatever reason I won’t be out of a job for long. I also get social security and have a bit saved up so I won’t be that bad financially wise.
