When I buy new phone I ask people in the phone shop to transfer data for me. I always get everything transferred from old phone to a new phone before I clear out old phone.
Personally I find it safer to have important correspondence in emails. I accidentally delete texts with semi important info all the time. |

I use google drive all the time. You can access it from your google account, and from your gmail account, and have a separate app and link it to your gmail account.
Open your gmail. Click on a square waffle looking thing and you’ll see ton of stuff including google drive |

There is something wrong with your phone if you can never download any apps.

Ok.. WHERE is the backup stored?? Google Drive is empty and I can't find it anywhere in my gmail account. My cell says I've had backups done but I can't find them. It reads text messages have been backed up... ?

Maybe it would be easier if someone can physically take a look at it. Are there any phone shops opening up by you? They’ll open up soon I hope. Those phone shop guys always know things like that.

I think I'll have to do that. With covid19, I haven't done any of that.
