So how do you get motivation to do stuff like waking up and having a shower or having the patients to read a book or colouring in pictures

Well... I don't really know. For me it's one part routine (I do pretty-much the same things in the same order every day) & one part just forcing myself to do what needs to be done. Many years ago, my father used to say: "You're not required to like it. You're just required to do it." I've taken that as my mantra.

Hi @princesscookie19,
Something I do when I'm lacking motivation, or feeling like I'm slipping backwards, is to look for positive reasons why doing certain things is a good idea. The things might be good for my physical health, my mental health, might help me to stay on track, may give me energy that otherwise might not be there, or might be things I normally would enjoy doing and may give me a sense of purpose about my life, or may simply be a challenge that I'm setting myself, princesscookie19. I basically look at everything I do from those sorts of angles, especially when I'm not feeling the best. You'd think I'd be cracking it in the world and very successful though, wouldn't you, but I'm not. It just helps me get through my days in one piece which is good enough for me. |
